The team announced Wednesday that Buffalo Sabers center Zamagus Girgonsons hopes to survive the regular season following surgery.
The chameleons suffered injuries during an investigation on Monday. The Sabers said they expected to remember for about six months, which would keep them out well in the postseason.
The 26-year-old signed a three-year, $ 6.6 million contract with the Sabers in October. He provided 12 goals and seven assists in 69 matches for the Sabers last season, his seventh at Buffalo after being selected by the team in the first round in 2012.
Girgenson has yet to find a place in the playoffs, as Buffalo’s postson drought reached nine years in 2019-20. Overall, Girgenson has scored 61 goals and 138 points in 489 career games with the Sabers.
The buffalo, who started the season by hosting the Washington Capitals on January 14, received some good news on Wednesday after starting their training camp after missing the first four days with a lower body injury with captain Jack Eichel. Goalie Linus Ullmark practiced for the first time after meeting its self-quarantine requirements.
Saber also added the prospects of Dylan Cozens and Jack Quinn to his training camp roster the day after he represented Canada at the World Junior Championship tournament in Edmonton, Alberta. Canada won the silver medal by beating the United States 2–0 on Tuesday.
It is not clear when the two will join the team.
Buffalo’s first round pick in the 2019 draft, Cozens scored eight goals of the tournament and finished second with 16 points from seven matches. The 19-year-old center will be given the opportunity to compete for a spot with Saber despite being eligible to return to his Canadian junior team in Lethbridge, Alberta.
Quinn, who was selected with the No. 8 pick in October, had one goal and the World’s Juniors had four in seven matches. The 19-year-old right-wing is still eligible to return to his Canadian junior team in Ottawa.
