Trevor Who?
BYU quarterback Zach Wilson put on a show at the Boca Raton Bowl on Monday night, threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more in the first half as part of Central Florida’s 49-23 thrashing.
Wilson finished 26 of 34 of the game for 425 yards, was named the offensive MVP and may have provided Jets fans with a glimmer of hope when his team potentially turned to Clemson Stud quarterback Trevor Lawrence got a chance to be selected with the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NFL. Format.
The Jets are slated to move to second place after Ram’s upsets on Sunday, but they may have to keep an eye on the quarterback once again if the Jaguars select Lawrence with the top pick.
Wilson and Ohio State star Justin Fields are considered the top quarterback prospects behind Lawrence.
The Jets must decide whether it is worth moving on from either Sam Darnold, who is inconsistent and hampered by injuries since being selected with the third pick in the 2018 draft.
A 21-year-old kid-faced junior, Wilson entered a relatively unknown year, but shot down the draft board after throwing 30 touchdown passes with just three interceptions during BYU’s 10–1 regular season.
His rise mirrors Joe Burrow, who the Bengals first picked up with last spring, but Wilson has also compared another big-name quarterback.
“I’m not going to say he’s Patrick Mahomes, but what I’m saying is, he plays like Patrick Mahomes,” he told KNBR radio last month. “Like, there’s no throw he can’t do. He’s comfortable and really present when he’s playing. Every week, you’re like, wow, that’s something cool.”
Not only has Wilson’s improvisation ability on the fly been compared to Mahomes’ reign, but also MVP, but also a 6-foot-3, 210-pounder mobile, a skill NFL teams value today more than ever .
Wilson ran for eight touchdowns and 242 yards during the regular season.
Although he has not officially announced the draft, it would be surprising if Wilson was in school.
