Yurachek Falls from UH Falls to Arkansas AD

Hunter Yurachek, who has served as vice president of interuniversity athletics at the University of Houston for nearly three years, will retire to become Arkansas sports director, a person with Knowledge of the situation was confirmed on Monday.

The story was first reported by Football Scoop and Fox 26 in Houston.

Yurachek replaces Jeff Long, who was fired in mid-November after a decade at work.

Yurachek, who was promoted to replace Mack Rhoades in April 2015, has overseen more than $ 230 million in projects of capital and renovations in recent years. These projects include the opening of the Guy V. Lewis Development Center, indoor practice facility for the soccer program and the Fertitta Center, which is scheduled to open its doors next year.

Yurachek has four years in a contract extension that he signed last year that pays $ 450,000 annually.

Yurachek oversaw a sports budget of $ 45 million at UH. In Southeast Conference, Arkansas, Yurachek will inherit a sports department that had revenues of nearly $ 125 million, according to figures compiled by USA Today for the 2015-16 fiscal year.

Yurachek was not immediately available for comment.

His first badignment in Arkansas will be to hire a football coach to replace Bret Bielema, who was 29-34 in five seasons.

Prior to becoming a sports director in Houston, Yurachek served as badociate vice president and director of operations for the school office for athletics. He also previously served four years as an athletic director in Coastal Carolina.
