When Microsoft announced a major effort to unify all versions of Minecraft and institute cross-play, it confirmed that this meant that players would log in to an Xbox Live account, including Switch. The company has now revealed that this integration will go a step further: you can actually win Xbox Live achievements in the Switch version.
Microsoft told GameSpot in a statement that this, in fact, will be the case. Players will log in to an Xbox Live account and accumulate Gamerscore, even in the Switch version. This will be implemented in the Bedrock update, which was already implemented on Xbox One, PC and mobile devices.
"We can confirm that Minecraft players on Nintendo Switch will be able to get achievements and Gamerscore linked to Xbox Live when the Bedrock update is published," Microsoft explained.
Microsoft has said in the past that the update is scheduled for version 2018 in Switch, but has not yet provided any specific information. Microsoft updates for Switch have previously led to other interesting crossovers, such as the Master Chief skin that appears in DLC available in the Switch version.
