Yemen officials: Saudi attacks kill at least 8 in the northwest

SANAA, Yemen – Yemeni security officials say that two coalition-led airstrikes led by Saudi Arabia have killed at least eight civilians, including women and children, in the northwestern province of Amran, near the capital, Sanaa.

Officials say Monday's air strikes, which hit sites in the al-Barid neighborhood of Amran city, also injured more than 20 people.

They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak with the media.

Also on Monday, the Saudi-led coalition claimed that one of its air strikes killed at least 41 Shiite rebels, known as Houthis, including eight Lebanese Hezbollah members fighting with them, in Saada province to the north .

Yemen has been embroiled in a civil war since March 2015, pitting the Saudi-led coalition against the Iranian-backed Houthis who control the capital and much of the north of the country.
