Xiaomi Mi 8 announced: specifications, release date and price

Xiaomi has announced its new flagship phone, the Mi 8, and yes, it is the first phone of the company with a superior level. The Mi 8 has a 6.21-inch Samsung OLED screen, which fits a rather large notch that houses a 20-megapixel selfie camera.

The phone has a four-way curved glbad back panel and an aluminum frame. Inside is Qualcomm's high-end Snapdragon 845 processor, and the new 12-megapixel dual-camera configuration apparently gains 105 in DxOMark, so that's fine. Xiaomi also says that this is the first phone that uses dual frequency GPS, which is supposed to provide more accurate location data.

The Mi flagships of Mi Xiaomi tend to be extremely good phones for the price, if not especially avant-garde. For that, the company goes to everything in the Mi 8 Explorer Edition. The Explorer Edition has a fingerprint sensor on the screen that, for the first time on a phone, uses pressure sensitivity. Xiaomi also claims that the Explorer Edition is the first Android phone in the world to use 3D facial recognition technology, such as the Face ID of the iPhone X. And, of course, there is an Animoji equivalent on board.

Perhaps most importantly, the Explorer Edition has a transparent back panel that looks like hell.

The final entry in the My 8 line is My 8 SE, a smaller, slower and more economical version of the Mi 8 that clearly takes names from Apple's fun size. model. It is the first phone to use Qualcomm's new midrange Snapdragon 710 processor and has a 5.88-inch OLED display.

It is said that the 710 saves 30 percent in energy consumption compared to the previous 660 generator, while offering 20 percent higher performance; that could give the Mi 8 SE a strong position in the Chinese market, where several more expensive 2018 phones like the Oppo R15 Pro and the Vivo X21 are based on the 660.

The Mi 8 is priced at 2699 yuan (~ $ 421) in China, with the Explorer edition starting at 3,699 yuan ($ 577) and the SE available for 1,799 yuan ($ 281). As always from Xiaomi, these prices are extremely competitive.

The Mi 8 will be available in China from June 5, with the SE in the eighth edition and the Explorer Edition at a later date. There is no information about prices and availability for India or any other market at the moment.
