WWE Raw results, summary, ratings: Bobby Lashley secures the opportunity at The Miz, WWE championship

One night after the Elimination Chamber, the new WWE Champion, The Miz, found himself in trouble. Miz spent Raw trying to dodge a deal he made to give Bobby Lashley a title shot in exchange for taking out Drew McIntyre the night before.

Ultimately, Miz didn’t have to step into the ring, but Lashley was able to secure a championship shot next Monday. Lashley had to overcome a tough challenge from Braun Strowman to earn that opportunity, but he did so before making a final statement by eliminating Miz to close out the show.

CBS Sports was with you all night, bringing you results and highlights of all the action from the ThunderDome inside Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Bobby Lashley secures a WWE title shot

The Miz opened the show with a special “Miz TV” championship celebration. Miz spoke about making his decision and creating a detour on the Road to WrestleMania before being interrupted by Bobby Lashley and MVP. Lashley was seeking to claim Miz’s debt for helping Miz drop McIntyre at Elimination Chamber to open the door to Money in the Bank cash. Lashley gave Miz an hour to make his decision, threatening a beating anyway. Backstage, Miz pitched Adam Pearce to delay any action in a match with Lashley “until the time is right.”

When the hour was up, Miz said he needed more time and there are plenty of other men who want to challenge him for the title. Finally, Miz said he needed time to get ready and asked to write the decision in pencil for the next week. Braun Strowman’s music hit as he disrupted the situation and said that he was the only man who would receive a title match while claiming that Shane McMahon and Adam Pearce were plotting against him. This, in turn, brought out McMahon. McMahon told Strowman he couldn’t demand title fights. Strowman said that if he couldn’t have the champion, he wanted the challenger. This prompted McMahon to book the match, saying that if Strowman beat Lashley, then next week’s Raw would feature a triple threat match for the WWE championship.

Bobby Lashley defeat. Braun Strowman via pinfall after hitting a spear. The match immediately erupted into a fight between the powers, showing strong blows and great displays of strength. Lashley attacked Strowman earlier in the evening, sticking his knee out and returning to the legs again after Strowman ran onto the steps of the ring. Before Strowman could really get going, Lashley won the rather short match with a spear. After the victory, Lashley struck another spear and locked the Hurt Lock. Miz tried to run into the ring and hit Lashley with the championship belt only to be hit with a spinebuster and a spear, ending the show on his feet after cementing his shot at the title on next week’s Raw.

All in all, this whole story went well. The Miz is not a long-term champion, so the moments where he holds the title must count. Strowman initially felt like a minor inclusion in the mix, but allowed Lashley to once again show how dominant he has been in his current career. Getting to a world title fight on Raw next week is a big deal, as those moments are understandably rare. And Lashley ended up avoiding the low shot attempt and leaving Miz holding him strong in the face of his challenge. Grade: B +
