WSJ Editorial Board: After shooting Sheriff’s deputies in LA, protesters said ‘we hope they die’

No two other than the shooter are responsible for the gunshot ambush of a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputation as they boarded their patrol car. But the same cannot be said for the protesters who have blocked the entrance to the hospital where both are being treated, and are said to be “I will die.” The latter is a cultural poison that has been nurtured by the anti-leftist police movement.

Two deputies “were ambushed by a gunman in a cowardly fashion” in Compton’s neighborhood, Sheriff Alex Villanueva said at a press conference. We could not identify duty by name as of writing this, but press reports state that one is a 31-year-old mother and the other is a 24-year-old man. Both have been with the department for over a year.

Police have not identified a suspect, but the randomness of the ambush makes anyone look for any available police targets. We have seen this before when anti-police fever is hot. In 2014 Ferguson, Mo. And after the death of black suspects arrested in New York, a gunman shot and killed two officers in his car in New York.

Protests are worse this year after the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, and anti-police violence is more widespread. In June, an officer stabbed her in the neck in an ambush in New York City’s Flatbush. The officer survived.
