You may have already read that the Williams FW43B Formula 1 car leaked on friday, which preceded my opportunity to crown williams the winner from this year’s F1 season until appearance they are worried. Could you However, I have not noticed that the The infraction occurred even when one of Williams’ sponsors is none other than Acronis, to cybersecurity company .

Williams launched a statement following the trick where detailed that the reveal of the FW43B was for come from a virtual reality application. That app it has since been removed from app stores. From Williams:

Williams Racing planned to reveal its 2021 challenger, the FW43B, via an augmented reality app later today (5th March). Unfortunately, however, due to the app being hacked prior to launch, this will no longer be possible. Subsequently, we remove the app from both the Apple app store and the Android Google Play store.

The trick seems to amount to users extracting the renderings of the virtual reality application, whose cybersecurity was, say, lacking. The application gave users early and unrestricted access to renders of the FW43B and its new livery, even up to CAD models Of the machine!

The timing here is unfortunate, as Williams ad of a spoken Acronis sponsorship extension until the successes of the association in effusive terms.

That ad de Williams quoted Serguei Beloussov, CEO of Acronis, who highlighted the importance of keeping Williams data safe:

“We are proud to support one of the most iconic Formula One teams on the grid. With our technology, we ensure the security, accessibility, privacy, authenticity and security (SAPAS) of Williams Racing workloads, data, applications and systems. By using this design methodology, we are able to offer the highest level of cyber protection, keeping computer data free from tampering and easily accessible for smooth daily operations. We are committed to working with Williams Racing as they protect their advantage with Acronis. ”

I can’t help but laugh at the irony of the situation. It is definitely a Check your enthusiasm musical sign moment. It is like if Pirelli stopped shippingIn g P Zero Formula 1 tires to the race track and instead had sent a truck full of Summer tires P Zero and then he shrugged.

Or as if (ex-sponsor) Martini he had sent some sachets of Capri Sun juice instead of bottles of vermouth. Or if Lavazza He had sent Earl Gray instead of coffee.
