Any plan the San Francisco 49ers had to start newly acquired quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo could be ruined by injuries sustained by CJ Beathard on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.

For head coach Kyle Shanahan, the election Who starts this week against the Chicago Bears could be very simple.

According to Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle Shanahan was not sure that Beathard was physically able to practice on Wednesday due to a knee contusion and a hip strain sustained by a blow from the defensive end of the Seahawks Michael Bennett in the final minutes. If Beathard can not practice on Wednesday, Garoppolo will have the start.

"(Beathard) is a rookie quarterback and (Garoppolo) basically also, with him just being here," Shanahan said. "To give those guys the best chance of success, you have to give them all the representatives, which are not enough representatives yet, each time you divide them equally it's a kind of detriment to both."

Garoppolo played three plays against Seattle in relief of Beathard. He achieved a 4-yard gain and completed two pbades for 18 yards, including a 10-yard touchdown pbad to Louis Murphy on the final play of the game.

Shanahan will officially name a headline on Wednesday when Beathard's status is fully known.
