Who is the Phoenix? The Masked Singer season 5 episode 2 recap

The Masked Singer judges are not known for their eagle ears guesses. Sure, Ken Jeong intentionally guesses (?) Celebrities who would never compete in this Fox reality singing competition even if they were allowed to keep the mask on after being eliminated, but Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger, and Robin Thicke aren’t much better. Yet somehow they are still being asked to return season after season. It’s almost as if the producers want you to guess that Obama and Cher would do the show.

But this week, the second episode of Fifth season—Not just one, but two judges successfully named the singer under the mask of the eliminated contestant …

[Spoiler ahead.]

During the initial round of guessing that followed Phoenix’s horrific rendition of Kesha’s “TiK ToK,” the entire panel picked up clues indicating that the singer was a member of the LGBTQ + community. At the time, the judges secretly wrote down their “first impression guesses” before publicly discussing other options. Among the assumptions discussed were RuPaul, Jane Lynch, and Caitlyn Jenner.

Later in the episode, when viewers held the Phoenix and Black Swan (maybe Demi Lovato or the pop sensation between JoJo), Piglet (definitely Nick Lachey), Grandpa Monster (pooooossibly John Travolta but probably someone younger) and Chameleon (I honestly have no idea). Just before the Phoenix unmasking, guest host Niecy Nash—replacing Nick Cannon positive for COVID—Revealed the judges’ written conjectures:

Jenny McCarthy: Caitlyn Jenner
Nicole Scherzinger: Pérez Hilton
Robin Thicke: Laverne Cox
Ken Jeong: Caitlyn Jenner

Jeong eventually changed his guess to RuPaul and Scherzinger decided that it was actually Jonathan Van Ness. Well, Jeong should have held onto his weapons. “You know, I like a challenge,” Caitlyn Jenner told Nash after removing Pheonix’s giant head. “I have raced cars. I fly planes … You can only work on the golf game for a while. “

Cheering for Jenner, McCarthy wanted to know what the Olympian thought her many children would say when they found out she was on the show. “They’ve always known that dad is a little crazy, they’ll try anything,” Jenner said. “Life is short. You have to enjoy it. “As for anyone who grieved, Jenner was sent home first:” I’ll be on the golf course tomorrow. Don’t feel sorry for me. “

After watching that “Tik ToK” performance, the only people to feel sorry for are the viewers.
