If you looked up at the night sky on Thursday, you could have been one of the many people in the Pacific Northwest who wondered: What is that ray of light that falls on the sky?
People in the Portland, Cannon Beach, Corvallis, Klamath Falls, and Seattle area reported seeing the thick streak of light moving slowly across the sky around 9 p.m.
The Portland office of the National Weather Service tweeted Thursday night that its meteorologists still did not know the official reason for the lightning bolt.
Some have theorized that the screen was caused by a failed SpaceX rocket.
Many people took to social media to express their amazement and confusion about the screen.
