“We have a temporary absence of American leadership” on climate change

While speaking with a group of business leaders in Paris, former President Barack Obama said there is a "temporary absence of American leadership" when it comes to tackling climate change.

"I guarantee you that at this moment we have a temporary absence of US leadership on the issue," said the former president, who found the laughter of the room full of former French ministers and CEOs at the invitation-only event, according to Reuters.

However, he noted, "You are seeing companies and states and cities in the US that continue to work" to meet the objectives and stay on track.

According to ABC News, the coup in the current administration was part of a speech that Obama delivered at the event, "Fear Less, Innovate More."

In June, President Trump announced that he would take the United States out of the Paris Agreement, a historic achievement for the Obama administration, aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
