With the clock about to arrive at the appointed time, Sunday's heavyweight clash between the Seattle Sounders and Atlanta United needed a goal to animate things. And boy, did Raul Ruidiaz deliver it?
The Peruvian striker used a touch with his chest and two took two Atlanta defenders off the play before beating Miles Robinson with an absolutely dirty hat before whipping a volley past Brad Guzan to break the deadlock:
Ruidiaz, who joined the Sounders as a Designated Player with a lot of money that he signed in last summer's Secondary Transfer Window, has been everything the Sounders fans could hope for in their year with the club. The goal was for the Peruvian international to be seventh in 2019 in 11 games with one assist and he marked a perfect return to life at Rave Green after missing the last four games for his club while he was in the Copa América with Peru. In all, Ruidiaz now has 17 goals in 25 MLS regular season games, exactly the kind of performance the Sounders expected from one of their most expensive players.
