The collapse of one among Manhattan’s ubiquitous development scaffolds Sunday in SoHo left reporters scrambling for these “man on the street” interviews, those during which individuals share their hopes, fears and innermost ideas in alternate for just a few moments of TV time.
One fortunate reporter occurred upon a person who has given an excessive amount of consideration to these scaffolds. Oddly, that man is Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson, who was on the town for a recreation Sunday towards the Brooklyn Nets.
“I usually observe if the piping and stuff is new,” he advised the Fox 5 reporter. “Sometimes, you know. if something looks like it’s been there awhile, I kind of try to avoid that.”

At least Fox 5 knew who it had in Thompson. Sometimes, that doesn’t instantly click on for reporters. Like when KPRC’s Jake Reiner, the son of director Rob Reiner and grandson of Carl Reiner, headed out to the streets of Houston to interview individuals about highway rage. He discovered a younger motorist at a fuel station and, being a well-trainer reporter, he requested the person to say and spell his title.
Yes, that George Springer. You know, the Houston Astros’ World Series MVP.
“It was,” Reiner, who moved to the town solely seven months in the past from California, stated (by way of the Houston Chronicle), “both the most embarrassing and the coolest MOS [man on the street] I’ve ever done,” Reiner stated.
“When he stated who he was, I instantly went into adoring fan mode. Lots of people on social media thought I used to be faking my response when he advised me who he was. There have been some humorous feedback like, ‘Send Jake Reiner back to a Triple A station’ and, ‘Send Jake back to State Farm,’ all in good enjoyable. Honestly, I used to be geeking out as a result of skilled athletes are the one individuals I get star-struck by. And I’m a giant Springer fan. As you recognize, I’m an enormous Dodgers fan, so if I noticed any of my guys on the fuel station, it will have been a distinct story.
“Nonetheless, I’ll by no means not acknowledge George Springer ever once more!”
