A Virginia College professor resigned, officials said Monday, after writing on social media that supporters of President-elect Joe Biden are “ignorant, anti-American, and anti-Christian.”
Paul Ewell stepped down from his position as Professor of Management, Business and Economics at Virginia Wesleyan University, the private liberal arts school announced.
He previously resigned as dean of Virginia Wesleyan’s Global Campus.
“Last week, Dr. Paul Ewell resigned as dean of the Virginia Weslian University Global Campus,” the Virginia Beach School said in a statement on Monday. “Today, the university accepted his resignation as professor of management, business and economics.”
According to NBC affiliate WAVY-TV, Ewell wrote on Facebook that not all Biden supporters or Democrats should befriend him.
“If you were anti-ignorant, and anti-Christian enough to vote for Biden, I really don’t want to be your social friend on social media,” he wrote right after the election, in a posting that was removed is. NBC News has not seen the original post.

Ewell seems to have the support of President Donald Trump, who on Sunday tweeted a news about the professor with a one-word response, “Progress!”
Not long after writing the abrasive Facebook posting, the school sought to create a distance between it and Ewell.
“The school is aware of a recent comment made on social media by a member of the campus,” the school said in a November 6 statement.
