This is the heart attack moment a 2 year old Vietnamese girl fell from a 12th-Floor balcony – directly in the hands of a delivery driver who is being hailed as a hero for saving the baby’s life.
Nguyen Ngoc Manh, 31, was sitting in his vehicle at 4:30 p.m. Sunday waiting to make a delivery at a Hanoi skyscraper complex when he heard a child cry, VN Express International reported.
At first, she thought a baby was having a tantrum, but when she heard people yelling, she rolled down her window, looked up, and noticed in horror that the child was hanging about 160 feet above the street.
The father of two boys leaped into action and clambered up a 6-foot wall between him and the building, looking for where the boy would possibly land.
“I scaled the wall and saw that it could fall on the metal roof of the house that was used to store the complex’s electric generators, so I tried to climb on top of it,” he told the outlet.
“I made it but I couldn’t hold my ground because the roof was crooked,” Manh added.
He lost his balance and slipped when the girl fell, so he lunged forward and miraculously caught her; the impact left a dent in the ceiling.
The girl wasn’t crying, she was just looking at Manh as blood flowed from her mouth.
“She was a lot like my daughter at home. I was so confused that I could only say, ‘Please, please, I’m here now,’ ”he told VN Express International.
Manh turned the girl over to a security guard, who rushed her to a hospital.
“I didn’t think much of it back then, but now I’m happy to do something meaningful. After saving the girl, I left without leaving a phone number, although the girl’s family managed to reach me anyway to inform me about the girl’s health, ”said Manh, whose arm muscles tensed in closing.
Doctors at the National Children’s Hospital said the girl dislocated her hip but suffered no other injuries.
“Not only has it changed, my life has turned upside down. Normally my Facebook posts only get a few dozen responses, now I get tens of thousands, ”Manh said.
“I don’t see myself as a hero, I just want to do good,” he said, adding that he has turned down offers of gifts for his feat.
“Some have sent me money through my phone number. That disorients me. I don’t want to receive money that I haven’t earned myself, ”Manh said.
