Vietnam has been battling a resurgence of cases ever since for the success of suffering from an outbreak of coronovirus and warned that the disease could spread throughout the country.

The South East Asian country – which shares a border with China where the virus first emerged – recorded no locally transmitted cases for more than three months before Danang, a 57-year-old resident of the central city coastal city it was done. Coronovirus disease on Saturday, the Vietnamese government said.

The patient had no travel history domestically or internationally in the last one month, the government said. But Reuters reported that thousands of domestic tourists are on vacation in the coastal city.

Authorities are preparing to evacuate about 80,000 tourists in Danang. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc warned on Wednesday that every province and city in the country is at greater risk of infection, Reuters quoted state broadcaster Vietnam Television.

To be clear, the 450 total confirmed cases recorded in Vietnam on Wednesday are relatively small for a country with a population of about 97 million. The country has not recorded any deaths related to coronovirus.

But governments face difficulties in dealing with the rapidly spreading disease in Vietnam. That is why even for a country that was internationally reputed as a potential model for other developing countries in managing the outbreak of coronavirus.

The Vietnamese government’s online newspaper VGP said on Monday that preliminary epidemiological investigations have revealed that some new cases found in Danang were linked to the city’s three hospitals. Acting Health Minister Nguyen Theon Long said genome analysis also showed that “it is a new type of Kovid-19, which is more infectious.”

Authorities have tightened control measures in Danang, such as increasing contact tracing, limiting crowd size and preventing non-essential services. Flights to and from the city have also been temporarily suspended.

On Wednesday, Vietnam reported new cases in its two largest cities – Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, which were responsible for people visiting Danang in the past few weeks.

Reuters quoted city officials as saying that about 18,000 people who went to Danang returned to Ho Chi Minh City and 21,000 others went to Hanoi.

Resurgence in asia

Vietnam is not the only Asian country or region that is jumping afresh in the number of confirmed Kovid-19 cases.

Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam warned on Wednesday that the city was on the verge of a massive outbreak that could overload healthcare facilities and cost lives. Hong Kong, a semi-autonomous Chinese territory, had previously managed to control its outbreak – which allowed it to avoid lockdown.

But the Hong Kong government took drastic measures this week.

The report noted that Taiwan is also seen as a virus-rich success story, having investigated its first possible local sentinel case in more than a month on Tuesday. A Thai migrant worker – who arrived on the island in January – was reported to have tested positive for the disease a few days after returning to Thailand.
