Only two new words are spoken in NBC’s latest promo for Elliot Stabler’s long-awaited return to the Law-verses, but to be fair, they’re two pretty good ones.
The short but powerful preview, which aired Thursday night, finds Elliot (Chris Meloni) arriving at what looks like a crime scene. Although we don’t see him, we hear him call Liv (Mariska Hargitay), who turns around and says his name in return.
The emotion in his voice is matched only by the excitement of fans to see this iconic duo back together after all these years. Meloni acted alongside Hargitay for the first 12 seasons of Law & Order: SVU, departing before season 13 for what was recently referred to as an “inelegant” contract dispute.
Before the reunion is revealed, this new promo takes us back to the duo’s early days, with Liv praising their “great relationship.” We are also forced to relive the devastating moment when Liv learned that she would no longer be her partner. (Okay now, we know how the story ends!)
Elliot and Liv’s highly anticipated reunion airs as part of a special Law & Order: SVU crossover episode on Thursday, April 1 (9 p.m., NBC). Immediately after will be the premiere of the series Law and order: organized crime, NBC’s new spin-off with Meloni.
