Veteran player test positive for COVID-19; Friday’s game Vs. Padres adjourned

08:49: The league announced that it had postponed Saturday’s game as well. “Out of an abundance of caution and to allow for additional testing and conduct tracing.”

8:29 PM: The Perez-Giants game in San Diego was postponed on Friday as one of the San Francisco players tested positive for coronovirus, Kevin Ace of San Diego Union-Tribune Report.

“Tonight’s game was postponed due to a positive COVID test within the Giants organization.” Padres said. “MLB will announce additional information about the status of our series with San Francisco as soon as possible.”

Both teams played on Thursday and are scheduled to end their series with a game on Sunday, but it is now unclear whether they will be able to take the field over the weekend. With two-plus weeks left in the season now, and the Padres and Giants dying for a playoff spot, significant changes to their schedule could prove to be harmful. Nevertheless, the league must make a decision that follows the health and safety protocol. MLB has already seen notable changes in virus schedules, especially for the Marlins and Cardinals.
