Utah Reports Nearly 500 New COVID-19 Cases and Five More Deaths

After a minimum of nine months, the number of new cases stabilizes again.

The number of new COVID-19 cases rebounded again Tuesday, more than doubling after a nine-month low of 221 was reported in Utah on Monday. Meanwhile, more than twice as many tests were administered.

And, after reporting no new coronavirus-related deaths on Monday, the death toll rose by five on Tuesday.

Vaccine dose administered in the previous day / total doses administered • 16,373 / 1,027,073.

Fully vaccinated Utahns • 372,564.

Cases reported the day before • 481.

Deaths reported the day before • Five.

Washington County reported two deaths: a man between the ages of 65 and 84 and a man 85 and older.

Three counties reported one death each: a 65- to 84-year-old woman in Salt Lake County, a woman in the same age range in Utah County, and a man 85 and older in Summit County;

Hospitalizations reported the day before • 171. That’s seven more than Monday. Of those currently hospitalized, 55 are in intensive care units, four fewer than on Monday.

Tests reported the day before • 5,476 people were tested for the first time. A total of 15,610 people were evaluated.

Percentage of positive tests • Under the state’s original method, the rate is 8.8%. That’s slightly higher than the seven-day average of 8.3%.

His new method counts all test results, including repeated tests on the same individual. Monday’s rate is now at 3.1%, lower than the seven-day average of 4.1%.
