The US women’s national team joins Tottenham Hotspur on short-term loan to Alex Morgan, Club announced saturday. The forward Orlando Pride will sign with Spurs for the remainder of the FA Women’s Super League season, where he will rejoin Orlando Pride defenders Shelina Zadorsky and Alana Kennedy, who are also on loan spells.

Tottenham finished seventh (out of 12 clubs) after leaving the 2019 WSL season due to the COVID-19 epidemic.

Morgan’s brief move to London has led to women’s World Cup champion players going overseas to clubs in the United States. Sam Mavis and Rose LaValle joined Manchester City, and Kristen Press and Tobin Heath were announced as new signings for Manchester United on Wednesday.

The need for regular minutes in a year with unforeseen circumstances probably played a role in the player movement abroad where the epidemic has been handled differently. With five champion USWNT players in England, the moves to attract the top talent of NWSL represent WSL as a highly competitive league with a pocketbook.

Due to the COVID-19 test results, Pride pulled out of the NWSL Challenge Cup this summer and is set to compete in the current NWSL Fall Series. Morgan has not played a competitive match since giving birth to her daughter in May.

Orlando Pride will kick off its fall series on Saturday 19 September. The competition will be held on 17 October. All nine clubs are divided into three regional “pods” during this time epidemic in an attempt to limit travel to clubs. All clubs will play four matches against their regional foes.
