USMNT vs. Jamaica score, highlights: Dest, Aaronson and Lletget score as Americans win international friendly

The United States men’s national team defeated Jamaica, 4-1, during an international friendly at Stadion Wiener Neustadt in Austria on Thursday. It was the first meeting for Concacaf’s rivals since their 2019 Gold Cup semi-final.

The USA did a quick job of setting the pace in the opening minutes, holding the ball and dominating possession, although the team initially struggled to find meaningful opportunities in the final third against an organized defensive line from Jamaica. After a better combination of the American attack, the advance to the goal came in the 34th minute.

Yunus Musah connected with Sergino Dest in an open space for this spectacular opening goal, the first for the Barcelona defender with the USWNT.

Coach Gregg Berhalter made some substitutions at halftime that paid off in the 52nd minute when Brenden Aaronson extended the lead to 2-0, with a strong assist in the penalty area from Josh Sargent.

Jamaica opened the game with a goal in the 70th minute. The Reggae Boyz caught the United States in a quick counterattack after a set piece. Andre Gray beat up American defender Reggie Cannon in the assist to Jamal Lowe, who set up Zach Steffan to put Jamaica within a goal. But Sebastian Lletget ended the United States’ match with goals in the 83rd and 90th minutes to secure victory.

The USMNT is back in action on Sunday with another friendly against Northern Ireland.
