MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) — The US army command in Africa says
it carried out three drone strikes in opposition to Islamic extremists in
Somalia inside 24 hours, stepping up their marketing campaign in opposition to
al-Shabab and the Islamic State group.

A spokeswoman for the US Africa command instructed The Associated Press
Sunday that the badaults by unmanned drones killed a number of
extremist fighters.

She mentioned that with these three badaults, the US has now carried
out 26 strikes in Somalia in opposition to extremist targets in 2017.

Two of the strikes had been in opposition to al-Shabab, which is allied to
al-Qaida and has been waging a battle for 10 years to determine rule
by Shariah legislation in Somalia. The third US strike was in northern
Somali in opposition to the Islamic State group, which has established
itself in Somalia over the previous two years.
