WASHINGTON – The US ambbadador to Russia says that any meeting between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin "would be very far". Jon Huntsman suggested on Sunday at "Fox & Friends" that if a summit were to happen, "the president, at the right time, will say what needs to be said."
Huntsman's statement comes after a report that the White House officials were working to set up a meeting.
Trump has said he was willing to hold a summit with Putin, which US intelligence officials UU they said led the Russian meddling in the 2016 election to help Trump win.
The president has repeatedly said he wants to improve relations with Moscow.
Huntsman says Trump would not sit down with Putin unless he had trouble arguing "that they were aligned with our national interests."
