The medium-sized Chevrolet Malibu receives a series of updates for 2019, including a new RS trim that is located at the heart of the lineup. It is not a performance model, it is a design-oriented package in the same line as the Honda Accord Sport or the Toyota Camry SE. But Chevy says that a Malibu RS will start around $ 25,000, so it should attract a large number of customers.
Chevy will offer the RS with a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine, the same one found in other Malibu models. The 1.5T ditches its six-speed automatic gearbox for 2019, in favor of a continuously variable transmission, that's not just for the RS, incidentally, that's for the entire 1.5-liter bus. The RS models also get exclusive 18-inch wheels, a black sports grille, black emblems, a rear spoiler and dual exhaust. On the inside, the RS has a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift lever, but fabric seats.
The entire Malibu line receives a redesigned front fascia and new taillights for 2019, as well as new exterior colors and wheel designs. Inside, an 8-inch touch screen houses the new Chevy Infotainment 3 system, and a backup camera is standard on every detail, including the Malibu L base.
The Malibu Premier models have a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine more powerful, coupled to nine high-speed automatic transmission. The Malibu Hybrid is also transmitted with its 1.8-liter engine and electric motor, and it must still return up to 49 miles per gallon in the city.
