Up to four years of security updates can be found in future Snapdragon phones

The first phones to take advantage of Project Treble’s enhancements will be those that feature Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 888 chip, which will begin making its way to high-end devices early next year. Qualcomm later Clarified It plans to support its lower-level chips in this way.

Of course, all this will not do you any good if you own a phone without a Snapdragon processor. While Qualcomm is the most prominent chipmaker in the Android space, it is not the only one. Many entry-level and mid-range phones run MediaTek processors. It is also important to point out that this is not a policy Google would require companies like Samsung and OnePlus. The search giant is only working with Qualcomm to make it easier for manufacturers to support their devices longer.

Nevertheless, in a world where most flagship Android phones do not receive OS updates for more than three years, and some less expensive devices get two years of support, this is a step in the right direction.
