Lucknow: A businessman from Uttar Pradesh who accused Indian Police Service officer Manilal Patidar – currently suspended – was injured by gunfire at a hospital in Kanpur. He was found earlier this month in his Audi car on a highway near the town of Mahoba in the state with a bullet wound to his neck and was battling for life in a critical care unit.

Indrakant Tripathi, a prominent mining businessman in Mahoba, 230 km from the capital Lucknow, released a video statement on social media earlier this month accusing Manilal Patidar, a 2014-batch IPS officer, of corruption, intimidation and intimidation. .

The businessman who traded mining explosives had said that the officer should be blamed if he were to die in any way. The video went viral on social media.

The former police chief of Mahoba, a mining hub in the Bundelkhand region of the state, Mr. Patidar was suspended on charges of corruption on the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, admitted to the merchant hospital after less than 24 hours. A case of murder and extortion attempt was registered against him and two other policemen based on a complaint by the businessman’s family.

It is not yet clear who shot the businessman or how he fired inside his car.

The officer has not yet been arrested.

Tripathi’s brother told the media in Kanpur on Sunday, “We want Patidar to be arrested. He is an influential person. He and his people can harm our family.”

Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav has pulled up the UP government over the incident.

“The murder of Indrakant Tripathi, who exposed corruption in the Uttar Pradesh government, has proved that the government’s ‘Thoko’ (Shot) policy, fake encounters of the police and false cases against opposition leaders have sent the state into the abyss, ”he tweeted in Hindi.
