ASABA 2018: The president of the IAAF says games, appreciated by sports lovers

PRESIDENT, International Association of the Athletics Federation (IAAF), Lord Sebastian Coe described the African Senior Athletics Championship (ASAC) as an event much appreciated by lovers of sport.

The head of the IAAF, accompanied by the president of the African Athletics Confederations, Hamad Kalkaba Malboum, also paid a courtesy call to the Governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, who described Okowa as a leader visionary for accepting that Asaba hosts the championship that will see athletes from 52 African countries fighting for laurels starting tomorrow at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.

"IAAF thanks the host city, state and political leaders for their support of the championship, Sports needs visionary leaders such as Governor Okowa and we are grateful that the stadium is ready and will be used for many other competitions in the next years, "said the president of the IAAF.

Governor Okowa reaffirmed his administration's commitment to host the championship and thanked those who contributed to make Asaba the chosen city to host the championship.

"Sport is very vital, it keeps people healthy and helps redirect the energy of our young people to positive commitments, we are encouraging school sports to develop young talents," he said, adding, "organizing this type of championship is exciting and we hope that this will encourage our people and get the best out of them in sports because, this is the first time we are having such a large number of Asaba athletes and our state. "
