Al Ahly omits Ajayi's name of 2018/2019 Squad on injury

By Adeboye Amosu:

Nigeria forward, Junior Ajayi, has been excluded from the Egyptian team, Al Ahly's 33-man squad for the 2018/2019 season, reports

Ajayi, a key member of the team suffered a knee injury in the CAF Champions League Group A match against Township Rollers in Botswana last Saturday and is expected to be out of action for four months.

He played a key role as the Red Devils won the Egyptian League title last season and also reached the final of the CAF Champions League where they lost to Ivorian Ivdad Casablanca in the final.

The injury will also affect his chances of fighting for a spot in the Super Eagles before the qualifiers for the 2019 African Cup of Nations that will resume in September.

He got his first call for the Super Eagles for the pre-World Cup friendly against Poland and the Czech Republic in March.

In the absence of Ajayi, South Africa striker Phakam ani Mahlambi has been handed a spot on the team.

Rami Rabia was also not named on the team due to an injury, which also requires a long period of treatment like Ajayi.

Al Ahly are ready to participate in the Egyptian Premier League, CAF Champions League, Egyptian Cup, Arab Club Champions Cup and Egyptian Super Cup this period.
