Two people died and six are hospitalized after shots at an off-campus party near Rutgers University.

The shooting occurred at 1:30 pm Sunday afternoon during a house party on Delfield Street, located just half a mile from the university campus.

It is unclear who specifically promoted the gun fire, but the Rutgers University Police Department said in a press release that the case is under investigation.

“In this incident, it is reported that an unidentified criminal (s) fired multiple shots from persons attacking with a weapon, who were present,” it read.

‘Those injured were rushed to a field hospital and injuries are reported to be serious.’

Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, NBC New York reports two people were pronounced dead.

The identities of the victims have not been released, and the current status of the six injured persons has not been disclosed.

Until now, preliminary investigations did not suggest that there was any affiliation for the victims or the students of Rutgers University in the shooting.

“As per the details of the culprit, the information is limited at this time and investigation is active and ongoing,” the officials said. No arrests have been made.
