President Donald Trump, in a tweet on Monday, said Pfizer and other drug makers "should be ashamed" about rising drug prices.
Trump said on Monday that the companies "are simply taking advantage of the poor (and) others who can not defend themselves, while at the same time, offering offer prices in the basement to other countries in Europe (and) elsewhere" . He said "we will respond" but he did not say how.
Pfizer shares took a negative turn briefly in the tweet, but were the last with a rise of 0.44 percent. The company did not immediately respond to CNBC's request to comment.
Trump has repeatedly criticized pharmaceutical companies, even accusing them of "getting away with murder". His administration revealed a plan in May to lower prices for consumers.
