WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump said Thursday that he would veto a comprehensive defense bill that authorizes a $ 740 billion top limit in spending and outlining Pentagon policy.

Trump said, “I will veto the Defense Bill, which will make China very sad. They love it.” “Section 230 must end, protect our national monuments and allow military removal from far away, and very inaccessible, lands. Thank you!”

On Friday, the Republican-led Senate overwhelmingly passed the National Defense Authorization Act, or NDAA. More than 70 members have more than a two-thirds majority in support of a pass-through bill that would be needed to defeat Trump’s proposed veto.

Congress must now vote again to beat Trump

The NDAA, which typically passes with strong bipartisan support and veto-proof prominence, authorizes a peak of $ 740 billion in Pentagon policy.

Earlier this month, Trump threatened to pass a defense bill if lawmakers did not include a measure to eliminate legal protections for social media companies.

Trump is calling for the repeal of a federal law known as Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which protects tech giants like Facebook and Twitter from being legally liable for being posted on their platforms is.

Last week, Trump referred to the provision as an “obligation shielding gift” for “Big Tech” and called for it to be “completely abolished” otherwise he would end this year’s NDAA.

The president also said that the measure posed a serious threat to US national security as well as election integrity but provided no further details. Trump has also said that Twitter, his social media platform of choice, has been unfairly censored.

The president’s issue with Section 230 came to light this summer when Twitter added warning labels to several of its tweets that alleged mail-in voting was fraud. Trump still has not run in the US presidential election for Democrat Joe Biden.

This year’s legislation includes a 3% wage increase for US troops, a plan to rename military installations, with the names of Confederate leaders as well as other provisions.

The NDAA, in its present form, does not include any remedy in relation to section 230.
