The formation of a super PAC would be the latest example of Trump’s efforts to maintain his control over the Republican Party. Super PACs can raise and spend an unlimited amount of money, although they cannot contribute directly to a politician or political party.

Trump remains a dominant figure in the Republican Party even after he was indicted a second time for his role in the January 6 attack on the United States Capitol. Trump was acquitted by the Senate in a vote earlier this month, although seven Republicans voted with Democrats to find him guilty on the charge of incitement to insurrection.
