VIENNA – United States Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is criticizing Moscow for its aggression in Ukraine before a meeting with the Russian Foreign Minister.
Tillerson is using his opening speech at the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe to call Russia for interfering with nearby countries. He says that Russia is "arming, leading, training and fighting alongside anti-government forces" in Ukraine.
Tillerson says the United States "will never accept the occupation and attempted annexation of Russia" from the Crimea. He says the sanctions will remain in place until Russia returns control of the peninsula to Ukraine. He says the United States joins Europe to maintain other sanctions until Russia withdraws military forces from the Donbbad region in eastern Ukraine.
Tillerson meets on Thursday in Vienna with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
