It’s always a pleasure to stumble upon a standalone game that you haven’t heard of before, especially one that looks big and polished, like it’s going to go head-to-head with much bigger games. That’s what it’s like to look at Thymesia, an action RPG with a grim setting and frenzied melee combat against plague-infested brutes.
Watch this trailer to get an idea of what your combat will be like to play and what kind of world you will be exploring.
OverBorder, a Taiwanese development team, has been posting videos of the game for a couple of years, but the trailer above announces their publishing deal with Team 17. Only seven people work on OverBorder, so it’s no wonder they are have associated.
The key to the game world is that it has been devastated by a plague, and Corvus, the protagonist of the game, is able to seize “enemy diseases and [use] them as weapons against their adversaries, “according to the press release. Swords, scythes and spears are seen above, but I suppose the moments when they turn green is representative of Corvus carrying the diseases in some way.
Much of the combat also involves carefully timed dodges and parries. In the press release, it is explained that you will be able to customize Corvus for different playstyles and update its stats as you play so that each game is different. Knowing me, I will lose to the first boss and never progress further.
Every year seems to bring more games in this line.
Damn, not much information to share about Thymesia at this stage. Uncomfortable! I’m really sorry I tried to turn this post into an acrostic at this point.
