Dallas came out hot tonight, stumbled in the second quarter, and finally retired and closed the game in the fourth quarter stretch.
Cleveland dominated the paint for much of the night, but could not keep up with the three-point attack of all the Mavericks. Cleveland was led by 19 points from Jordan Clarkson, while Luka Doncic led the Mavericks, and all scorers, with 35 points, along with 11 boards and 6 asissts.
Luka doncic can lead an offense
Luke came out completely on fire tonight, illuminating the Cavaliers by 18 points from the first quarter in 4/5 from beyond the goal. He entered 10 more in the second quarter, closing the strong half to give the Mavericks a small part-time lead after a very difficult stretch in the second quarter with him at the bank. After the exchange, the incorporation of the new Mavs, one thing is for sure: this team will succeed or fail on the back of Luka Doncic for many years.
Three pointers were key to Dallas' victory, especially with Harrison Barnes'Fourth trimester
Dallas went 16/39 from the three-point field tonight, and Harrison Barnes knocked down 3 of them when he came alive in the fourth quarter to help close the Cavaliers and save a Mavericks victory in the stretch. Cleveland, on the other hand, was only 4/23. With the addition of Luka Doncic this season, Barnes has raised his three-point attempt rate from the top twenty to more than 40% of his shots. Dallas will be at its best when Harrison Barnes finds out how to tap into his flashes of tenacious defense at all times and topple the catching and shooting attempts he constantly receives from Luka and the pick and roll action in the middle of the floor.
Dorian Finney-Smith Y Maxi Kleber Could be paid this summer
While none of the players is a star, both are the kind of players you need like 5th opener or bench player early in a championship level team. They hurry. They play defense. They bounce off both ends of the floor. They move the ball. They end around the edge. They press the trigger in the open position and fire three pointers, striking frequently enough to demand closure. Watch this summer to see some interesting offers.
Watch for the preview of Mavs Moneyball when Dallas returns home to face the Charlotte Hornets next Wednesday. In their first home game with teammates after the trade, we're likely to see Tim Hardaway, Jr. and Courtney Lee in Mavericks uniforms for the first time.
