The Impreza 22B is the latest Subaru. Built in limited quantities to match the company’s factory WRC efforts in the 1990s, it’s packed with rally-minded enhancements that will have any enthusiast drooling. The 22Bs are exceptionally rare, with only around 400 built. As such, they are not often seen for sale, especially in the United States. This one just went up for auction in California and it looks almost perfect.
Like all 22Bs, this one has a specific body to differentiate it from the standard Impreza. There are flared fenders to cover specific gold-painted BBS wheels, along with STI brake calipers and a tuned ProDrive suspension. Under the hood is a turbocharged 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 280 horsepower. It brings power to all four wheels through a five-speed manual transmission and a driver-adjustable electronic rear differential, state-of-the-art in the 1990s.
This particular car, originally imported to the US under the show or display exemption law, appears to be in spectacular condition considering its high odometer reading of 40,000 kilometers (relative to its average mileage of 22B, anyway ). The body panels, the underbody and the interior equipped with Recaro seats are in wonderful shape. As a bonus, the timing belt and water pump were replaced in early 2021.
It’s hard to say how much this 22B will sell for. As a legitimate homologation special, it has an exceptional provenance. And the era of ’90s cars as complete collectibles is upon us. Up to $ 88,888 has already been bid at the time of this writing, with 13 days remaining to bid.
How much do you think this 22B is worth? What would you do with it if you had it? Let us know in the comments below.
