There are 15 more local COVID-19 deaths reported in the state, with more than 849,000 vaccines given.


The day Florida reported that more than 849,000 people received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, 15 more residents succumbed to the virus and more than 16,000 new cases were reported in the Sunshine State.

So far 849,317 residents have received vaccines across the state. Of them, 769,765 are the initial dose and 79,552 are the second dose. Most vaccinations – 508,223 – have been given to those 65 and older, reported in Florida’s Department of Health.

Ten of the latest disasters resided in Lake County, four lived in Marion County and one was a resident of Sumter County. They are among the 1,004 tri-region deaths, 24,169 in Florida and 391,279 nationwide.

All told, Florida is reporting 1,548,067 cases – an increase of 16,875 from Thursday to Friday. Of them, 1,519,944 are residents. A total of 70,833 cases have been reported in long-term care centers and 28,132 cases in corrective facilities. Across the state, there have been 24,169 deaths and 67,463 people hospitalized.

Locally, a total of 139 new COVID-19 cases were reported on Friday in and around villages for a total of 11,149. These include:

  • 22 (upstream) villages (Sumer, Lake and Marion counties) for a total of 2,983;
  • Leseberg 38 for a total of 3,061;
  • Summerfield 29 for a total of 1,344;
  • Bellevue 19 for a total of 912;
  • Lady Lake 12 for a total of 1,099;
  • 9 for the total number of Fruitland Park 508;
  • Wildwood 4 for a total of 778;
  • 4 Oxford for a total of 370; And
  • 94 for a total of 2, Lady Lake’s share of Sumter County.

Tri-county area

  • Cases: Increase of 47,015 – 634
  • Death: 1,004
  • Hospitalization: 2,939

Treaty Count

  • Cases: Increase of 6,265 – 51
  • Death: 128
  • Hospitalization: 421
  • Areas / cities with the most cases: Village (2,800), Coleman (785), Wildwood (778), Bushnell (678) and Oxford (370).

Lucky County

  • Cases: Increase of 18,962 – 209
  • Death: 349
  • Hospitalization: 1,077
  • Cities with the most cases: Claremont (4,960), Leesburg (3,061), Eustis (1,651), Mount Dora (1,424) and Tares (1,390). Villages are also reporting 122 cases.

Marion County

  • Cases: Increase of 21,788 – 374
  • Death: 529
  • Hospitalized: 1,441
  • Cities with the most cases: Okla (16,048), Summerfield (1,344), Dunnellan (971), Bellevue (912) and Citra (380). 61 cases are also being registered in villages.
