When a man from South Carolina received a strong craving for Waffle House at 3 am Thursday, he was not going to let anything stop him, including an employee who says he was asleep when he got there.
Alex Bowen told WIS-TV that he went to the West Columbia restaurant because he could not sleep. After not seeing other workers in the place and apparently not wanting to disturb the person who was sleeping, Bowen decided to take care of the matter.
He went to the kitchen and prepared a sandwich for the evening, documenting his culinary adventure in a Facebook post that has gone viral.
"It got hot on the grill with a double bacon of melted cheesesteak cheese with additional pickles," Bowen told WIS-TV. "When I finished, I cleaned the grill, picked up my badly-made sandwich and kept rolling."
He admitted to ABC News: "I was quite drunk."
Bowen added that he later returned to the restaurant to pay for the sandwich.
A spokesperson for Waffle House told WIS-TV that the employee who slept was suspended for a week. Apparently, Bowen has no problem with his actions.
However, in a statement obtained by multiple news media, the network noted that "for security reasons," customers should never "have to go behind the counter."
The statement also mentions the possibility of Bowen getting a job in the company, since "obviously" he has "some culinary skills".
