A "slightly drunk" Waffle House customer from South Carolina decided to take care of the issue after the West Columbia staff fell asleep early Thursday.

Alex Bowen, 36, stopped at the restaurant and cooked his own food, finding the staff asleep. He even posted hilarious photos of himself in the restaurant.

Bowen said he went into the restaurant while returning home after a few drinks with friends and found it empty of other customers.

He told the NBC affiliate, WIS-TV 10, that he was very hungry and added: "I went out again to look for employees … No one in sight"

He also said he waited 10 minutes at the cash register. "I went back in and waited a few more minutes and then the time came," Bowen said.

"It got hot on the grill with a double of melted cheesesteak cheese bacon with extra pickles," Bowen added. "When I finished, I cleaned the grill, picked up the sandwich I had bought and kept rolling."

The photos in his Facebook post showed Bowen in the cooking areas and with a stacked sandwich. He also posted a photo of the sleeping employee he had seen later in the background.

"I give all the credit to my old friend vodka," he said. "Normally I would not have done that."

Bowen also said he went through the same Waffle House on Thursday afternoon to check into the store and make sure no one was asleep at work.

He said that one of the employees says that the store is not very happy with what He had done. "Yeah, I guess the old waffle house will have to take the L in that (sic)," Bowen said.

Bowen also responded negatively when asked if he had paid for his food before leaving, but added that the employee gave $ 5 when he returned on Thursday afternoon.

WIS-TV also quoted a Waffle House spokesperson as saying that the sleeping employee was suspended for a week. He also said that after speaking with Bowen they discovered that their actions pointed to more problems that will be addressed in the future.

A statement from Waffle House said: "Our local Division Manager has spoken with Alex and apologized, for security reasons, our clients should never have to go behind the counter, rather, they should get a quality experience delivered. We are reviewing this incident and will take the appropriate disciplinary action. "On a related note, Alex obviously has some culinary skills, and we would like to talk to him about a job since we can have something for him.

ABC News reported that after Bowen's story went viral, a Waffle House district manager approached him and asked him to become a secret shopper for Waffle House and even thanked him for shedding light on a it fails in its business.

Bowen said he hoped that someone Waffle House would be awake the next time he went to ask for it. "But if not, I would know what to do," he said.
