Britain became the first country in the world to authorize the Pfizer / BioNTech coronavirus vaccine, which made it available from next week.
The government on Wednesday accepted the recommendation of the Independent Medicine and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) today to approve the Pfizer-BioNTech’s Covid-19 vaccine.
“The vaccine will be made available across the UK from next week.”
The German biotech BioNTech, which developed the vaccine with Pfizer, said in a statement that the companies are ready to deliver the first dose to the UK immediately.
Pfizer chairman and CEO Albert Borla said the authorization from the UK’s Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) was a “historic moment”.

Pfizer and BioNTech announced in July to supply 30 million doses of their mRNA-based vaccine with Britain, formally known as “BNT162b2”, once authorized for emergency use. The deal was increased to 40 million doses in early October.
