LOS ANGELES – The floor at this year's Los Angeles Auto Show will look a lot like the roads of the United States: full of SUVs.
Hyundai and Nissan will debut new small SUVs in the show, while Subaru will take off their new three-row SUV, the Ascent. Jeep will show a new version of its rugged Wrangler, while Infiniti, Lexus, Lincoln and Porsche will present more refined models.
A combination of low gas prices, the growth of millennial families and a series of new models is fueling the SUV boom. As of October, the total sales of EE vehicles. UU They fell 2 percent compared to the same period last year, but SUV sales increased 6 percent, according to Autodata Corp.
The show will also have many eco models in a nod to California buyers, who buy a higher percentage of hybrids and electricity than the US UU as a whole thanks to state tax credits and other incentives. Land Rover will present its first plug-in gas and electric hybrid, while Volkswagen will show its next family of electric vehicles. Porsche will also have a plug-in hybrid.
These are some of the vehicles that will be presented at the fair, which will open to the public on Friday.
The medium-sized MKX SUV from Lincoln is given a new name, Nautilus, in an effort to break away from the luxury alphanumeric crowd. It also receives its first update since it went on sale in 2015. The Nautilus 2019 changes its V6 engine for two turbocharged four-cylinder options: a 2.0-liter that generates 245 horsepower or a 2.7-liter with 335 horsepower. The Nautilus adopts the Lincoln mesh grill. It also has a set of new safety technologies, including a system that keeps the SUV centered in its lane and an evasive maneuver system that can automatically steer the vehicle around obstacles. The Nautilus 2019 goes on sale in the spring.
CHEVROLET CORVETTE ZR1 CONVERTIBLE
The fastest and most powerful version of the General Motors Co. Chevrolet Corvette gets its first folding roof in almost half a century. Chevrolet says the convertible will not hurt the performance of the 755-horsepower car much. It is only 60 pounds heavier than the standard coupe and will still have a top speed of more than 200 miles per hour. The only changes to the convertible are the structure of the foldable upper part of the car and the restrained seat belt supports. The 2019 ZR1 made its debut earlier this month in Dubai. The last ZR1 had a convertible in its original model year in 1970. The coupe starts at $ 119,995 including shipping, while the convertible starts at $ 123,995. They will arrive at dealerships this spring.
The five-seat Infiniti SUV undergoes a complete overhaul, starting with a new rigid but lightweight body made of high-strength steel. The 2019 QX50 sits taller than the outgoing model and looks more robust and safer. Under the hood is what Infiniti says is the world's first variable compression ratio engine ready for production. The four-cylinder turbocharged 2.0-liter automatically adjusts the performance of the pistons to optimize power or fuel efficiency. Infiniti says the engine offers 268 horsepower and 27 miles per gallon in combined city and highway driving, a 35 percent improvement in fuel efficiency over the QX50 output. The new QX50 also features Infiniti's ProPilot driver badistance system that can automatically control braking and speed and keep the SUV in its lane. The QX50 will go on sale in the first quarter of 2018.
Known for its small cars with four-wheel drive and SUV, Subaru enters the large market of people transport with the new Ascent. It has three rows of seats and can carry up to eight people. Built in Lafayette, Indiana, the Ascent will be sold only in North America to satisfy its thirst for larger vehicles. The Ascent with all-wheel drive is powered by a new turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. The chairs of the second row captain are optional in some versions. The price was not released, but the Ascent will go on sale next summer.
