The Steelers signed former Washington QB and first-round Dwayne Haskins for a one-round deal

Less than a month after Washington was released, Dwayne Haskins signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers, team Announced on thursday. Haskins, who previously went with the Carolina Panthers, signed with the Steelers after lunch with Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin.

Shortly after the news broke, Haskins posted pictures of himself signing his new contract. Haskins also revealed that he would wear No. 3 after wearing No. 7 in Washington.

The 15th overall pick in the 2019 draft, Hawkins was released to the Panthers following a bye in Week 16 of Washington. The HFLins’ highly publicized violation of the NFL’s COVID-19 protocol also contributed to his release. After his release, Haasins called it “the worst week of his life” during an interview with WUSA9’s Darren Haynes.

“One should be accountable for the decisions you take in life, and be able to move forward and make the best decisions,” Haskins said. “There is no doubt in my mind that I can overcome it, develop and be a better person. A better athlete, a better quarterback and a better leader. That’s because I’m praying I am working to show more. ” I am hoping that a new change of scenery will help with this. “

In two seasons in Washington, Haskins went just 3-10 as a starter. He completed 60.1% of the passes with 12 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. In 2020, the former first-round pick won just one of his six matches, throwing more interceptions (seven) than a touchdown (five). And when Haskins and fellow backup Kyle Allen went 2-8 as Washington’s starting quarterback, veteran Alex Smith, a potential comeback player of the year, went 5–1 leading the football team to the NFC East Division title Been ahead

However, some of the struggles Haskins is having are due to the fact that he has had to play for three different coaches and two different coordinators have contributed to his lack of success. Haasins also had to play behind an offensive line that allowed 50 sacks at Washington’s quarterback over the past two seasons.

Haasins had some bright moments during his time in Washington. At the start of his sixth career, Huskins threw for 261 yards and two touchdowns (completing nearly 68% of his passes) in a 37–27 loss to Washington to Philadelphia. In Week 4 of the 2020 season, the Huskins threw for 314 yards, damaging more than 71% of their throws in Washington’s 31-17.

A former college standout at Ohio State, Huskins flourished in Urban Meyer’s quick-passing offense. The offense is similar to the Steelers run in 2020. Pittsburgh’s new passing philosophy was one of the main reasons for the season’s 11–0 start. The Steelers eventually had to win one of their final six games due to dropped injuries, injuries and a lack of a running game.

In Pittsburgh, Haskins will join a quarterback room, which currently includes Mason Rudolph and Ben Rothlisberger. Haskins will likely replace Joshua Dobbs, who served as Pittsburgh’s No. 3 quarterback in 2020. Dobbs hopes to become a free agent for this offseason. Rothlisberger, despite being non-committed to his position for the 2021 season, is expected to return for his 18th season under center at Pittsburgh.
