The Mariners have traded veteran wrestler Anthony Swarzak to the Braves for left-hander Jesse Biddle and former Atlanta closer Arodys Vizcaino.

Seattle is also sending cash considerations to Atlanta, possibly to help cover what is left of the $ 8 million owed to Swarzak this season.

Drayer: Yusei Kikuchi showed something to the Mariners in Sunday's victory

Biddle, 27, had a 3.11 ERA in 60 appearances last season as a rookie, but has a 5.40 ERA and 10 walks (11 strikeouts) in 11 2/3 innings this year. He can be placed in the role of left-handed specialist who previously occupied Zac Rosscup, who was designated for badignment during the weekend.

The second-year lefty started 2019 with a 2.38 ERA in his first 12 games (11 1/3 innings) but was designated for badignment after allowing seven runs (four earned) and registering only one of his last three appearances.

Biddle, who has a salary of $ 575,000 this season, has three years of arbitration left in his contract. He was selected in the first round of the MLB Draft of the Philadelphia Phillies in 2010, but did not make his MLB debut until April 2018.

Swarzak, 33, has a 2-2 record with three saves (in six saves) and a 5.27 ERA this year. Although he did not allow a run in his first six appearances of the season after one season on the disabled list, Swarzak has an ERA of 8.64 with six home runs lost in his last nine games (8 1/3 innings). The Mariners acquired Swarzak from the Mets before the season in the trade that sent Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz to New York.

Vizcaino, 28, has 41 saves over the past three seasons, but will not appear for the Mariners, at least not under his current contract. He underwent shoulder surgery that ended the season after appearing in only four games this season, and his contract ended in late 2019. He had a 1-0 record with a save and a 2.25 ERA in 2019 before suffering his injury.

Vizcaino is an FA at the end of the year, Biddle is under the club's control until # 23. According to Rosenthal, the salaries and cash exchanged are balanced. Deal would seem to be a steering wheel in an arm that they think can improve. Biddle has no remaining minor league options.

Kyle Seager returns soon, giving the Mariners a big question to answer.
