The Sacred Heart of Jesus Statue Destroyed in Texas Cathedral


Church leaders said the 90-year-old sacred heart of the statue of Jesus was destroyed during vandalism inside a cathedral in Texas.

One person has been detained on suspicion of vandalism.

The El Paso Police Department is investigating the vandalism, which took place at St. Patrick’s Cathedral at about 10 a.m., when the church was open and available for prayer.

Vandalism shocked the church leaders.

“I am in shock and we are heartbroken over such an unexpected situation in the church,” the rector of St. Patrick’s Revere Trini Fuentes said in a statement.

Bishop Mark J. Seitz also spoke.

“This statue is one of my favorite representations of Jesus – his arms are open with welcome, his heart is with love for us. I often draw inspiration from this image as I prepared for Mass, ”said Seitz in a statement.

The Bishop said, “As long as I am sad to see a statue attacked and destroyed, I am grateful that it was not a living person.” “But an idol, especially this statue, connects and connects us to individuals and ideals that are not visible to our eyes. They reveal to us realities that are close to us, but unseen.
