The Raiders have three first-round picks. They have worked with the best quarterback prospects Kyler Murray and Dwayne Haskins.
However, the Raiders are not expected to use a first-day choice for a quarterback, Michael Gehlken, of the Las Vegas magazine-magazine reports.
"Behind the scenes, the option [of drafting a quarterback in the first round] It has appeared remote at best. Today, the result would be considered a shocking pivot if it develops, "writes Gehlken.
Gehlken said it was "conceivable" that the Raiders could use a third-day option for a quarterback.
Coach Jon Gruden called Derek Carr "our quarterback" at meetings of the NFL owners last month.
Although he was 4-12, Carr completed 68.9 percent of his passes for 4,049 yards with 19 touchdowns, 10 interceptions and a 93.9 passer rating.
He'll have more help this season, as the Raiders traded for wide receiver Antonio Brown and signed offensive tackle Trent Brown and wide receiver Tyrell Williams in free agency.
Carr and Brown seem to have hit. They exercised even before the Raiders trade was completed by the receiver. They recently did the same thing against the live coverage of defenders from the University of California at Berkeley, according to Gehlken.
