Garth Brooks fans at a packed concert in Newark sat in the dark and then sang alone during a power outage that temporarily silenced the show Prudential Center tonight.

The sand darkened during a warm-up act around 8 p. M. before Brooks took the stage, according to the Twitter messages posted from inside the arena.

The messages showed the darkened sand, followed by the gradual return to power. The Twitter messages showed the fans in the crowded arena singing alone after some lights were activated, but before the Brooks band jumped on stage.

Andrew Wesley, spokesman for the Electric Public Service & Gas, which serves Newark, said at approximately 9:15 p.m. M. that the PSE & G teams were working with the Prudential Center to discover what happened.

"The cause is under investigation," he said.

Approximately at 7:50 p.m. tonight, the Prudential Center experienced a brief power cut. The power restored quickly and tonight's performance progresses as scheduled.

Prudential Center has been in close communication with its partner, PSEG, about the brief interruption tonight.
