The new Apex Legends update makes a big change to Heat Shields in season 8

A new update for Apex Legends on March 23rd has introduced some heat shield changes as Respawn continues to play with the newest item in Battle Royale.

First things first, Respawn has put the Heat Shields back into the regular loot pool on both regular and ranked playlists, so players can find the survival element in the game.

But they’ve been slightly nerfed since Apex Legends players were last able to use them, and the developers made changes to the way players can heal within their radius.

Respawn has been pushing some of these micro-patches more frequently to address some of Apex’s most pressing issues, so catch up on what’s in the latest update.

Heat Shields no longer grant quick heals within their perimeter.

There was no significant downtime for the latest Apex Legends patch, but it will unlock Heat Shields as they were disabled in ranked and private matches on March 12.

However, along with various fixes since they were disabled, the heat shields have been nerfed and will no longer have fast healing while in the element protection dome.

While the element was given the passive to help players heal while avoiding the dreaded damage ticks that came from being out of the zone, there have been other uses that Respawn could be responding to.

Apex Legends players found the Heat Shields passive to be extremely useful in late-game situations, but the developers have removed it since they brought them back.

“Share clips of why activating this in Ranked is a bad idea. Share clips of why turning this on in Ranked is a good idea. I’m curious to see how Heat Shield affects gameplay, ”said John ‘JayBiebs’ Larson, Associate Designer at Live Balance, after the patch was released. “I have some theories. Note that we have a lot of dials that we can turn to balance. “

As one of the latest mechanics to be introduced in Apex, Respawn will be monitoring the situation further to understand where to make the best fixes.
