PITTSBURGH (AP) – A new brewery will be launched at a Cold War missile command center near Pittsburgh.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports from the Grist House Craft Brewery have looked at a structure known as "the bunker building" on the former Nike missile base.
It was one of several bases operated by the United States Army that used anti-aircraft guns and Nike and Hercules missiles to defend Pittsburgh from the Soviet attack in the 1950s and 1960s.
The building will become the main production center of the brewery. The vast location will also have room for an extensive program of aging barrels in basements, a carpet and a retail space.
It sits on one of the highest points of Allegheny County, in Collier Township.
The owners recently closed the building, but keep the opening date secret.
